Using Turnitin with Canvas

There are 2 ways in which you can add Turnitin with Canvas assignments.

Using Turnitin Framework with Canvas is the quickest and easiest way to set it up.

  1. Create or edit a Canvas assignment to begin the setup.
  2. Choose the "Onlineā€ method under Submission type.
  3. Select Text input or File upload (instructor preference) and the option for Plagiarism Review will appear below.
  4. Select Turnitin.
  5. All the available Turnitin options will appear. Select the options you wish to use.
  6. Click Save or Save and publish to save the assignment.
  7. All submissions and orgininality reports will be viewed in Canvas Speedgrader.

Turnitin Feedback Studio is a more complex way to use Turnitin with Canvas but provides all the same features provided if using the Turnitin web site.

  1. Create or edit a Canvas assignment to begin the setup.
  2. Select External Tool as the Submission type.
  3. Click the Find button.
  4. Select Turnitin Feedback Studio and then click the Select button.
  5. Click Save or Save and Publish to save the assignment.
  6. In your Canvas assignment click the Gear icon to set up your Turnitin Feedback Studio settings.
  7. Click Submit to save these settings.
  8. Your Turnitin Inbox will remain empty until a student submits a paper.

Turnitin.com Accounts can be created if you wish to use the Turnitin service on their site.

  • You will need to request an account for Turnitin.com.
  • You can create courses on Turnitin.com and use their grading and feedback features offered.
  • Students upload papers directly to a Turnitin.com assignment.
  • Assignments on the Turnitin web portal do not integrate with the Canvas gradebook.
