Cable TV

Effective May 1, 2024, Astound Broadband will no longer provide cable TV service to Texas State University.  The technology employed by Astound is nearing its end of life. Despite an extensive search, TXST did not identify a suitable enterprise solution to replace it. The IT Assistance Center (ITAC) has provided a list of recommended service alternatives below for your convenience.

In preparation for the service discontinuation, we request all current customers return their cable boxes to ITAC by Wednesday, May 1. Please return the cable box by this date to avoid a $150.00 charge (per cable box) from Astound for your department.

To facilitate the return process, complete the Cable TV Box Return Request form, and a staff member will arrange pick up. Alternatively, you can drop off the equipment at an ITAC Service Center. The San Marcos Campus Service Center is conveniently located on the 1st floor of Alkek Library, while the Round Rock Campus Service Center can be found at Avery 302.

Recommended Service Alternatives:

  • Work with a cable TV provider of your choice on available options.
    • With this, you will need to setup your own subscription plan to fit your needs.
  • Purchase a digital tuner / antenna.
    • This will allow your device to pick up basic channels.
  • Submit a Learning Spaces Consultation (A/V) Request.
    • This will initiate a design consultation for a classroom, meeting room, or digital signage project. We offer initial consultations with a ballpark estimate at no cost.
